HWENA AWARDED 2025 COMMUNITY TRAILBLAZER AWARD
The Historic West End Neighborhood Association (HWENA) has been honored with the 2025 Community Trailblazer Award by Affordable Housing for the Carolinas. This award recognizes HWENA's 26+ years of dedicated advocacy for the people of Charlotte’s Historic West End, particularly in the areas of affordable housing, neighborhood stability, and equitable development. HWENA's collaborative efforts, educational initiatives, and organizing have ensured that long-time residents remain central to the community's future.
‘A long time coming’: Washington Heights residents laud new outdoor space
Dozens of residents looked on as community and city leaders sawed a board in half, signaling the opening of The Ritz at Washington Heights.
Once-neglected cemetery restored
as place of honor
A platoon of volunteers collaborated with Wreaths Across America to restore Cedar Grove Cemetery, a 1.8-acre burial ground near Beatties Ford Road.
With much celebration and fanfare, Chase Bank opens branch on Beatties Ford Road
Even clouds and light rain couldn’t dampen the cheer of city officials, residents, and community leaders who celebrated the opening of Chase Bank’s newest branch.
